[tribune] Russia recently conducted a test launch of its Satan 2 nuclear missile, which it says is capable of wiping out an entire country with a single strike.
According to the country’s defence ministry, the missile was fired about 500 miles north of Moscow, The Independent reported.
The missile, also called RS-28 Sarmat, covers 3,600 miles before hitting its target. It is believed to be capable of carrying 12 nuclear warheads.
On the occasion of the launch, three ballistic missiles were set off from submarines as part of the training to test the country’s nuclear arsenal.
The Kremlin further said President Vladimir Putin was present there and himself test-launched the ballistic missiles.
Russia has “carried out an exercise to manage its strategic forces,” the defense ministry statement said. “All objectives of the training have been successfully completed.”
Earlier this month, the country carried out exercises that involved intercontinental ballistic missile launchers.
In September, Russia and Belarus had conducted massive war games that were also felt in some Nato countries, among those Poland and Baltics.
